Indian Givers began with a simple idea of bringing local South Asians together to become involved in the Atlanta community and improve the lives of others.  Neal Shah founded the group in March 2008 and brought together a few of his friends to help lead this effort.  Roma Patel, Prerak Bathia, and Nimesh Patel joined Neal in spreading the word of IG to others to assemble the first event at Kennedy Middle School in 2008.   Since then, IG has grown to a non-profit organization with over 100 volunteers.

 Current Board Members:

romaRoma Patel grew up in Chattanooga, TN and moved to Atlanta to attend Emory University.  She began her career in strategy consulting, but after 4 years realized she wasn’t able to be actively involved in what she was passionate about: volunteering, traveling, dance, and theater. She made the decision to change her lifestyle and pursue her entrepreneurial spirit, which she attributes to her family. Her endeavors vary from movie theaters, clothing design, event planning, and small business consulting.

“Indian Givers gives us an opportunity to realize the power we have to come together and help those in need. Seeing the differences we make, the joy brought to those we aid, and the pride and enthusiasm of our members makes us, the board, feel like the creation of Indian Givers was more than worthwhile.”

His hobbies do not include swimming or whistling.

"One of the greatest feelings about Indian Givers is hearing the enthusiasm of all the other members; people constantly ask when the next event is coming up so they can help volunteer."

neal Neal Shah is originally from Chattanooga, TN but has been residing in Atlanta since 1998. He graduated from Georgia Tech in 2003 and now works at a Big 4 consulting company. One of his passions is bringing people together to tackle issues that not only affect him but others in the community. Neal is excited to be an Indian Giver.

"I believe giving back to a community is the responsibility of each of its members. We hope to create an avenue that lets people discover their inherent desire to help others."

Prerak Bathia was born near Chicago, Illinois and attended college at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.  He graduated in 2005 after spending a year abroad at the London school of Economics with a Political Science major.  While he intended to attend law school, he abandoned that plan in his senior year and now works in Atlanta at McMaster-Carr Supply Company, a privately-held industrial supply distributor.  He's an avid sports fan, tennis player, and political junkie.

"The genius behind Indian Givers is tapping into the desire of young professionals in Atlanta who would like to volunteer, but do not have the means or the time to find such opportunities.  Indian Givers provides the vehicle that promotes community involvement for this population."
